Evening session - Tackling the Worry Monster - Understanding Childhood Anxiety

The session covers:

  • the types of anxiety, and when to seek help

  • contributors, and ways to reduce them- indicators. Some anxiety is part of normal childhood development, however we explore signs to look out for.

  • what's happening in the brain, patterns of behaviour and the anxiety cycle (and how to interrupt and change the cycle)

  • the basics of Neuroception and Interoception, and their role in anxiety

  • Anxiety in the context of ASD and ADHD

  • what doesn't work, and can be unhelpful

  • PRACTICAL strategies to support the child

Anxiety can be exhausting for everyone! We will cover ways for parents/caregivers/educators to reduce their stress and remain calm.

This session also contains strategies gained from Kate completing training with Dr Russ Harris, and Dr Louise Hayes, in Mindfulness and A.C.T (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), and anxiety for children and teens.


She has also attended trainings with Karen Young (from Hey Sigmund), a psychologist with a passion to educate and advocate for our children and young people experiencing Anxiety.
